February 20-24

Welcome to an extremely short week!  For the gender unit, we will complete all but the final debate and essay, which will take place next week.

MONDAY: Presidents' Day HOLIDAY!  Enjoy.

WEDNESDAY: Journal.  Short reading quiz.  Discussion about the weekend reading, related info.  Transgender-related legislation in CA and NC.  Research basics - scholarly sources:on laptops, find and utilize scholarly articles on the PVHS library website and on PVLD.  Both of these locations provide valuable, credible sources for papers while you're at high school, and you'll definitely be using databases for papers at the university level and beyond. If time: while on laptops, begin research for Gender Debate Prep Worksheet.

Due: Read the following articles articles and instead of written questions, be ready for a short quiz on them for Wednesday, February 22:

1. How Science is Helping Us Understand Gender 

2. Glossary of terms

Please read an additional 25 pages in your independent reading book.

Homework 

1. Have your journal ready to turn in on Friday, February 24 for a journal check.  


The following are due on Tuesday, February 28:
2. Gender Debate Prep Worksheet - hard deadline of next Tuesday, February 28.  (We will debate the issue on that day.)

3. Please read 30 pages (more for longer books) in your independent reading book, and bring it for Friday in case you have extra time after registration on Friday. 

FRIDAY: Juniors register for 2017-18 classes.  Please come to class for attendance, to turn in your journal up through Wednesday, February 22, and to find out which counselor and room to report to.  The counselors expect the session to take at least one hour, and then they are meeting with students individually, sending them back to class afterwards.

No vocabulary quiz this week.
