February 6-10

Hello! Here's what's on the agenda for the week:

TUESDAY: Journal warm-up.  Turn in homework questions for both articles.  ACT-style practice - reading comprehension and essay outline with your own examples.  Turn these in.  Vocab story rounds.

Due: Read the following articles in the "man packet":  "Why Johnny Won't Read," and "Putting Down the Gun." Finish the questions with your original answers after each article.

Turn in essay outline  and reading comprehension practice before the end of class.

Read at least 25 pages of your independent reading book.

Homework: Please read another 25 pages of your Independent Reading Book and respond with an original Discussion Board post to Topic #4.  (Remember to go to your Independent Reading book "class" on Turnitin.com and then click on the Discussion Tab on the top to get to the discussion board.)


THURSDAY: Journal warm-up.  Quiz.  Discuss "Why Johnny Won't Read" and "Putting Down the Gun." Read Paul Theroux's "Being a Man" as a class and analyze his evidence, examples, and tone.  In groups, make lists either supporting or refuting his thesis.  Present evidence and examples to the class. 

Due: Please read another 25 pages of your Independent Reading Book and respond with an original Discussion Board post to Topic #4.  (Remember to go to your Independent Reading book "class" on Turnitin.com and then click on the Discussion Tab on the top to get to the discussion board.)

Homework:Read "Just Walk on By" and "Professions for Women" and answer the questions at the end of the articles.  Read 20 more pages of your Independent Reading book.
